First, we do not recommend that you design your own war base. Someone with more time than you has already tested and retested a design that will work far better than what you are likely to come up with. See our images of recommended war bases below. If you want to let your creative juices flow, we would really appreciate it if you did that with your regular base and stick to the designs below for your war base.
Remember that your war base is not your regular base. The only purpose of your storage units, let me reiterate the ONLY purpose, is to slow down attackers. Therefore, you should always favor having defensive structures inside walls over storage buildings, mines, etc.

War Base Checklist
- Town Hall in the center. Surprisingly, that needs to be on the checklist.
- Clan Castle as close to the center as possible and placed such that attackers have trouble luring troops. Click on the clan castle and look at the white ring -- anything inside that ring will trigger your clan castle troops. Try to have that ring inside of walls -- or worst case inside structures.
- Heroes as close to the center as possible after you have centered your Town Hall and your Clan Castle.
- All defensive structures inside walls.
- Core defensive structures (Infernos, X-bows, Mortars, Wizard Towers, Air Defenses, and ideally Teslas) closer to the center and evenly distributed.
- Perimeter defensive structures (Archer Towers and Canons) on the outer part of your base (but still inside walls)
- Infernos spaced sufficiently that a single freeze spell cannot freeze both infernos.
- All traps built for your TH level
- All air mines placed within trigger radius of an air defense for Lava Hound protection. (TH10 has one extra mine, place it in the path between two air defenses to catch the hound as he moves).
- Air bombs evenly spaced. Placed to try to take out a group of minions.
- Non-defensive structures should be placed such that the highest hitpoint structures are closest to the center. Order is: DE Storage, Gold Storage, Elixer Storage, DE Drill, Gold Mines, Elixer Collector, Spell Factory, Dark Barracks, Barracks, Lab, Army Camp, Builders Huts. The purpose of these structures is to slow down attackers as they get closer to your townhall and allow your core defenses to do damage.

We guarantee that you will find these designs to be extremely difficult for players at your TH level to three star (assuming your defenses are upgraded appropriately).
